Taiwan looks to enhance IDFs to address fighter requirements

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (WIND) is expected to announce by the end of the year a decision to upgrade more than half of its Indigenous Defence Fighter (IDF) fleet, as plans to procure an additional tranche of Lockheed Martin F-16 aircraft have stalled.rnAccording to industry sources at the Taipei Aerospace and Defence Technology Exhibition (TADTE) 2009, Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) has already upgraded a prototype IDF with an improved radar, avionics and flight-control systems. The upgraded aircraft, which is known as the IDF-II'Goshawk' or IDF C/D joint strike fighter, made its maiden flight in 2006.
