Italian Army sets out protected vehicle acquisition plans

The Italian Army revealed more details of its 4x4 Medium Protected Vehicle (MPV) acquisition programme at the Future Armoured Vehicles 2010 conference in Rome, writes Paolo Valpolini. The MPV-called the VTMM (Veicolo Tattico Medio Multiruolo) in Italy - is being developed by IVECO Defence Vehicles, which is responsible for the automotive parts, in collaboration with Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), which is developing the armoured cabin. Current requirements envisage the acquisition of up to 1,400 18-ton VTMMs to fill a gap in the combat service support area.
