Canadian troops have completed their last combat patrol in Afghanistan and begun handing over their area of responsibility, the Panjwaii and Dand districts, to US forces, writes Sharon Hobson. Having spent five and a half years in Kandahar as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Canada officially ends its combat mission on 31 July. By November the Canadian Forces are expected to have made a full transition to a training role, based in Kabul and operating in northern areas of Afghanistan.
