The US Department of Defense is embarking on a two-year effort to improve armoured vehicle protection without adding to vehicle weight or impacting manoeuvrability. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA's) Ground X-Vehicle Technology (GXV-T) effort is aimed at reducing vehicle size and weight by 50%, reducing vehicle crew size by 50%, increasing speed by 100%, increasing vehicle access to 95% of terrain, and reducing signatures that enable adversaries to detect and engage vehicles, according to DARPA.
