US Army plans an IM motor for GMLRS

The US Army plans to issue a request for proposals (RfP) in late November to early December for a new rocket motor for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) that will meet insensitive munitions (IM) requirements, the Army Contracting Command - Redstone announced on 3 November. A cost plus fixed fee contract is anticipated, which will cover about two years of work. To allow an interim version of the GMLRS-Unitary to be fielded in Iraq during 2005, the US Department of Defense's Joint Requirements Oversight Council had waived the IM requirement for the weapon's rocket motor.
