Full spectrum ship: Singapore launches Independence-class Littoral Mission Vessel

Development of the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN's) latest and most advanced surface warfare platforms, which are being built by Singapore Technologies (ST) Engineering's shipbuilding arm, ST Marine, has reached an important milestone with the launch of the programme's lead ship at the company's Benoi facility in early July 2015. The newly launched vessel, Independence, will be the first of eight new Independence-class Littoral Mission Vessels (LMVs) that will eventually replace the service's 11 ageing Fearless-class patrol vessels, which entered service in the mid-1990s.
