Israel and Gaza on brink of war after Hamas military chief is killed

Israeli defence force (idf) aircraft launched a series of air strikes against militant targets in the Gaza Strip after the assassination of Ahmed al-Jabari, the Chief of Staff of Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in Gaza City on 14 November. The Israeli raids targeted senior Hamas military operatives, and the group's rocket storage and launching infrastructure. In retaliation, by the morning of 15 November, militants had fired more than 200 rockets into southern Israel, killing at least three people.
