North Korea confirms third nuclear test of 'smaller and lighter' device

North Korea Carried out its third and most powerful nuclear test on 12 February. South Korea's Meteorological Administration detected a tremor of magnitude 4.9 at 1157 local time (0257 GMT). The body said that the epicentre of the quake was located in North Korea's Kilju county, North Hamyeong province, where the Punggye-ri nuclear test facility is based. The United States Geological Survey also announced that it had detected seismic activity at the same time. Official confirmation from North Korea came after the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported three hours later that the test had taken place.
