Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA)

The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan are the home of the TTP; an alleged safe haven for the core Al-Qaeda leadership, global jihadists, and the Afghan-Taliban leadership; and a target of UAV attacks by the US and military operations by Pakistani armed forces. According to intelligence reports provided to the Pakistani parliament, the militants based there have been responsible for 50,000 civilian and military deaths, and have caused economic losses worth USD100 billion through terrorist attacks in Pakistan since 2001.
