China drafts reforms of intelligence laws and structures in apparent bid to co-ordinate operational requirements

On 14 May, China quietly released a vaguely worded draft intelligence law for public comment. Without identifying the intelligence services by name, the draft laid out expansive authority for the relevant organs They were charged with providing intelligence reference and support related to "preventing and dissolving risks endangering national security, and [to] safeguard the national regime, sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity, the prosperity of the people, economic and social sustainable development and other major national interests".
