UN experts slam actions of Russian contractors in CAR

A group of UN experts says it continues to receive reports that Russian military contractors are involved in "grave human rights abuses" in the Central African Republic (CAR) and warned the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA) to keep its distance. Drawn from the UN Human Rights Council's Special Procedures department, the experts released a statement on 31 March identifying the companies involved as Sewa Security Services, the Russian-owned Lobaye Invest SARLU, and the "Russian-based organisation popularly known as the Wagner Group". The statement said the Russians have been implicated in a series of violent attacks since the CAR'S presidential elections in December 2020.
