The Swedish Air Force (SwAF) is pinning much of its modernisation effort on the Saab Gripen, according to the service's commander, Major General Carl-Johan Edstrom, who told Janes, "Last year's Defence White Paper called for the future Gripen force not to drop below 90 [and], while 60 of them will be the new single-seat Gripen Es, the remainder will be Gripen C/Ds."
