India released on 20 March a draft of new military procurement rules in line with long-running targets to boost indigenous capability and reduce reliance on imports. The draft Defence Procurement Procedure 2020 (DPP 2020) proposes higher levels of local content, new multipliers in defence offsets, a procurement category for leasing, and new options for equipment sustainment activity. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said it would invite stakeholders to submit comments and recommendations about the policy by 17 April. The policy, which outlines a total of 47 amendments, is expected to be finalised later this year.
