Australia outlines support for defence trade law update

The Australian government has outlined its support for a series of proposals to update the country's defence trade legislation, which regulates the supply of military and dual-use technology overseas. The Department of Defence (DoD) said on 14 February that it supported all nine recommendations in an independent review of the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012, which was launched in April 2018 and led by Dr Vivienne Thorn, a former Inspector General of Intelligence and Security and before that a Deputy Commonwealth Ombudsman.
