Oshkosh Truck Corp of the US has released more details of its bid for the British Army's Support Vehicle (SV) requirement (Jane's Defence Weekly 5 November). A deal, potentially worth ￡1.4 billion ($2.3 billion), is expected to be awarded in 2004. Oshkosh states UK vehicles would have a high UK content (over 90%). It also argues that the choice of Oshkosh would offer greater logistic advantages in two areas: commonality with the recently purchased Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) and the UK's earlier selection of Oshkosh to supply the fleet of new wheeled tankers. It also points to potential sales of Oshkosh military vehicles to Europe.
