In its relatively short history, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has evolved from its humble beginnings into a modern, sophisticated and professional air force. The emphasis on quality, both in integration of high-tech systems into its fighting capabilities and the development of quality human resources, remain the cornerstones of the RSAF's continual development and transformation. Even as the RSAF develops and transforms, our primary emphasis continues to be on the defence of Singapore. Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, the scope of the RSAF's missions has been broadened to include the defence against asymmetric and terrorist threats. Such threats pose a very different challenge from conventional attacks, as there is little warning and they require an almost immediate response. Therefore the RSAF has been continually reviewing its capabilities and operational concepts in order to respond decisively to counter these unconventional threats.
