BAE makes bid to build eight Type 45 destroyers

BAE Systems has submitted an unsolicited bid to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to build all eight projected Type 45 anti-air warfare destroyers based on the configuration of first-of-class HMS Daring, according to Vic Emery, Managing Director of BAE Systems Naval Ships. The proposal, Emery said, would deliver eight Type 45 ships for the Royal Navy at a cost significantly below that which the MoD could obtain under the programme's cur-rent procurement strategy.
