US Navy officials are weighing up a key challenge in their new seabasing concept: how to move large amounts of personnel and materiel quickly from future ships to targets ashore. The idea is to have ground forces - both US Marine Corps (USMC) and army units - operate and be resupplied directly from ships manoeuvring offshore without having to rely on creating land bases. Transporting the large amounts of materiel from the ships to the troops in a timely fashion, however, will be no easy task.
