US nominates first female four star general

The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on 23 June the nomination of the US Army's first female four-star general. Lieutenant General Ann Dunwoody has been put forward to receive a fourth star and promotion to the head of US Army Materiel Command (AMC), for which she currently serves as deputy commanding general/chief of staff. If confirmed by the Senate, she will be the first woman to achieve the rank of full general in the US military. Gen Dunwoody, a New York native, was commissioned in 1975; her first assignment was as platoon leader at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Priorto her current position, she served as deputy chief of staff for the G-4 logistics branch at the Pentagon.
