Russia gives refit timescale for Iran's Project 877EKM sub

The refitting of an Iranian Project 877EKM 'Kila'-class submarine will be completed by late 2008, according to a Russian military-diplomatic source. The boat in question, one of three Project 877EKM submarines that Iran acquired from Russia via Ros-voorouzhenie (now Rosoboronexport) between 1992 and 1997, has been undergoing refit since 2006, according to the source, whereas the two others continue to patrol the Persian Gulf.
