SAN hosts 'Bell Buoy' and turns spotlight on piracy

The South African Navy (SAN) hosted the annual Exercise 'Bell Buoy' at its command centre outside Cape Town between 21 April and 1 May. 'Bell Buoy' is an annual naval control and guidance of shipping (NCAGS) exercise involving several navies, this year including officers from Australia, Canada, Chile, the UK and the United States, with observers from Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Namibia, Singapore and Tanzania. This was the first time that 'Bell Buoy' was conducted in South Africa. The previous two exercises were conducted in Canada and Hawaii.
