Selex Galileo has been awarded a USD9.2 million contract to supply three of its Vixen 500E active electronically scanned array (AESA) fire-control radars and their associated mission management systems for installation aboard US Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Cessna 550 Citation II 'interceptor' aircraft. Overtime, CBP Air and Marine has acquired at least 25 such aircraft, 14 of which have been confirmed as currently fitted with a variant of Northrop Grumman'sAN/APG-66(V) fire-control radar and Raytheon's AN/ AAS-36 forward-looking infrared sensor. So equipped, CBP Citations are used to intercept and track aircraft violating US airspace, with a particular emphasis on counter-narcotics smuggling activities.
