German Government Seeks Integration Of Iris-t Sl With Meads

The German government has issued a request to MEADS International for the integration of the IRIS-T SL medium-range air-defence missile into its Medium Extended Air Defence System (MEADS).rnLockheed Martin, the majority stakeholder in the development of MEADS, said on 2 February that Germany is seeking the integration of the IRIS-T SL as a secondary missile, thereby fulfilling some of the German Air Force's requirements of the MEADS programme. The company said: "It will be the first time that one of the MEADS partner nations has chosen to adapt MEADS into a unique configuration."rnThe request includes implementation of "an intersystem plug-and-fight capability for IRIS-T SL", which will include software adaptation but will not require hardware redesign.rnKlaus Riedel, executive vice-president of MEADS International, said: "Germany will be the first to leverage the strength of the MEADS open-architecture design, which allows countries to integrate sensors and shooters of other existing defences into a robust system-of-systems solution for national air defence."
