Austal USA begins building JHSVs

Austal USA has cut aluminium at its Mobile, Alabama, facility for the first of a planned fleet of up to 10 Joint High Speed Vessels for the US Army and US Navy, the shipbuilder announced on 18 December.rnFortitude (JHSV1) is scheduled to be commissioned into army service in 2011 with the second of the 103 m semi-SWATH (small waterplane area twin hull) catamarans, Vigilant (JHSV 2), following in 2012.
