USAF to constrain KC-X costs by limiting programme changes

Any changes to the US Air Force's (USAF's) next-generation aerial refuelling tanker programme are likely to require "high-level" approval in order to keep the USD30 billion effort within its projected cost and schedule. USAF Secretary Michael Donley told reporters on 5 April that a memorandum is being drafted to "make sure that we do not allow changes to be made to the tanker contract without a high-level review". In February Boeing was awarded a fixed-price contract to build 179 of its 767-based KC-46A tankers for the KC-X programme.
