The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued a request for information (Rfl) for eight new or pre-owned multirole combat aircraft to enter service no later than 2015. The Rfl, issued in late January, follows a declaration by Defence Minister Anyu Angelov in December 2010 that the country would launch a fighter procurement process. According to the MoD, the Rfl has been issued directly to US and West European defence attaches and includes a provision that two of the fighters will be twin-seat lead-in trainer variants.
