Indonesia signs delayed frigate deal

Indonesia's Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding signed a contract on 5 June for the construction and sup-ply to the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Laut - TNI-AL) of a 2,400-ton light frigate based on the Dutch company's SIGMA 10514 design. An MoD statement said the contract is valued at USD220 million and calls for Damen to transfer technologies to ship-builder PAL Indonesia to enable it to build sections of the ship. Other sections will be construct-ed at Damen sites in Vlissingen (Netherlands) and Galatz (Roma-nia), with final assembly to be undertaken in Surabaya.
