House authorisation bill seeks to curtail DoD biofuels efforts

Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee are following last year's pattern in attempting to use the annual defence authorisation bill to significantly restrict the US Department of Defense's (DoD's) ability to invest in or use biofuels.The authorisation bill, approved by the committee on 10 May by a 56 to 5 vote, exceeded the White House's budget request for Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) by nearly USD4 billion. Much of that amount "restored" by the committee is for projects the DoD said it did not want to pursue.
