Lockheed Martin unveils F-16V concept aircraft

Lockheed Martin unveiled an 'evolved' F-16 Fighting Falcon with the designation F-16V at the 2012 Singapore Airshow on 15 February. With a name derived from Viper, the US Air Force's nickname for the F-16, the F-16V will have enhancements including an active electronically scanned array radar, upgraded mission computer and architecture and cockpit improvements. George Standridge, vice-president for business development at Lockheed Martin, told a briefing that the company was offering the new platform because the "spectrum of challenges facing governments, militaries and economies" had led to requirements to "expand the capabilities at... of an existing airframe".
