Turkey may cancel its T-Loramids long-range air- and missile-defence system programme in favour of a new project to co-develop a longer-range, more advanced missile system, IHS Jane's understands. Ismail Demir, head of Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), told IHS Jane's that Turkey continues to hold talks with China Precision Machinery Import & Export Corp (CPMIEC) over the HQ.-9 surface-to-air missile (SAM) system for the T-Loramids programme. However, he revealed the SSM has also been talking to French-Italian consortium Eurosam for the acquisition of a longer-range missile that involves different layers of defence, although he did not elaborate further.
