Future army truck project could merge platforms

The US Army is considering a future truck procurement that could merge some of its medium and heavy platforms onto one chassis to gain commonality, said Scott Davis, director of the programme executive office for combat support and combat systems support. Work so far is in the science and technology realm to evaluate the viability of a "highly common truck" that spans the medium and heavy domains, he told reporters at an AUSA conference. He said an initial development effort could start in the next year or so. "If it works out well, and the feasibility looks positive, then we'll start to campaign to put funding in so we can proceed with a full development programme," he said.
