Paraguay's military seeks USD200m for kit in 2015

The Paraguayan armed forces have re-drafted and scaled back their equipment and modernisation programme from the USD568 million requested in August 2012 to a more modest USD200 million. The programme includes requirements for air-surveillance radars, light fighters, and transport aircraft. Paraguayan President Hora- cio Cartes announced in early September that the procurement programme would need to be assigned to a special investment fund independent of the annual defence budget, requiring congressional debate and approval.
