Despite widespread acceptance by operators and US Army leadership, much remains to be done to improve the service's small unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) capabilities and how they are operated, said Lieutenant Colonel Nick Kioutas, the US Army's SUAS product manager. Talking at the AUVSI 2014 conference in Orlando, Florida, Col Kioutas said the enhanced security and situational awareness brought by SUASs has gained recognition and acclaim, but a number of developments are needed to maximise their utility.
