Israel's Arrow 3 makes interception

Israel's Arrow 3 missile defence system successfully intercepted a target for the first time during a test carried out by the Israeli and US missile defence organisations on 10 December. Designed to intercept Iranian ballistic missiles when theyare still outside the Earth's atmosphere, Arrow 3 is the top layer in the four-tier defensive system Israel is developing. The test involved an Arrow 3 interceptor being fired from a facility in central Israel into space, where it hit a Sparrow target launched from an Israeli Air Force fighter flying over the Mediterranean Sea to simulate the trajectory of an incoming ballistic missile.
