India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed Agni 5 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) from a mobile launcher for the first time on 31 January. The 17 m-long nuclear-capable, three-stage IRBM was launched from a hermetically sealed canister mounted on a Tatra truck from Wheeler Island off India's east coast. "Successful testing of Agni 5 from a canister makes the missile a prized asset for our forces," Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared after the trials.
