Pressure grows on UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia

A British parliamentary committee is debating whether to call on the UK government to suspend defence exports to Saudi Arabia pending a UN-led investigation into the kingdom's bombing campaign in Yemen. "The weight of evidence of violations of international humanitarian law by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen is now so great that it is very difficult to continue to support Saudi Arabia while maintaining the credibility of our arms licensing regime," according to a draft report by the Committees on Arms Export Controls (CAEC) leaked to the BBC's Newsnight show on 6 September.
