EU unveils new global security strategy

Defence co-operation across Europe "must become the norm", argues the European Union's (EU's) new global strategy, which was quietly unveiled by the union's top security and foreign policy chief as an update to the EU's previous strategy of 2003. Though completely overshadowed by the furore over 'Brexit' (the UK's decision to leave the EU), the document was presented to EU leaders during their 28 June summit in Brussels. Federica Mogherini said, "I know this is not going to be the highlight of this European Council, but... if we want to play our role in the world we have to do it together, as a European Union... be it on foreign policy, be it on defence."
