Myanmar Army steps up troop deployment in Rakhine State

The Myanmar Army has deployed thousands of troops to the country's western Rakhine state as it steps up counter-insurgency efforts there. Nearly 40 battalions drawn from a range of local and regional commands as well as the army's mobile reserve have been moved to the restive region in recent weeks in a show of force against the relatively small and poorly armed forces of the Arakan Roh-ingya Salvation Army (ARSA).
