The US Navy (USN) has used its General Atpmics-built Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) to launch F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers without exceeding aircraft stress limits, US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announced on 24 July. According to NAVAIR, 71 EMALS tests took place at the System Function Demonstration Site at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, over the past few months. In addition, the post-test review of aircraft instrumentation data following the manned aircraft testing indicated that software control algorithm updates have corrected the issues discovered in April 2014.
