USN accepts delivery of new Ford-class carrier

The US Navy (USN) took delivery of the future USS Gerald R Ford (CVN 78) nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in Newport News, Virginia, on 31 May following the completion of acceptance trials five days earlier. The 333 m-long carrier, which is the first of its class, is expected to become operational in 2020 after reaching initial operational capability.
