The US Army has terminated its contract with Orbital ATK for developing the XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement (CDTE) weapon. In its fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017) budget request the army had prioritised the XM25 as its "number one materiel solution to mitigate a critical capability gap" for dismounted soldiers in combat. The army terminated its engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) contract in April with Orbital ATK "after it failed to deliver the 20 weapons as specified by the terms of the contract", an army spokesperson told Jane's on 16 May. "Despite extensive negotiation efforts, the contractor failed to provide an acceptable alternate resolution to the government."
