September start for Karaikal project

Construction is due to start in the fourth quarter of 2011 on a new greenfleld airport serving the coastal city of Karaikal in southeast India. Karaikal International Airport is being developed by Coimbatore-based Super Airport Pvt Ltd. Chairman JV Chowdhury told Jane's during Inter Airport India in March: "We will set up the airport under a build, own, operate [BOO] model - the first of its type in the country - which makes the airport 100 per cent private." He added: "The airport has already had in principle clearance from the government, and we await financial closure of the project."
