Saab is to demonstrate its remote tower technology at a US airfield in Virginia in a three-month project beginning in July 2015. Virginia SATSLab Inc (VSATS) is partnering Leesburg Executive Airport to demonstrate the technology at the non-towered airfield about 5 n miles from Washington Dulles International Airport. VSATS Executive Director Keith McCrea told IHS Jane's: "Leesburg is Virginia's busiest airfield after Manassas, handling more than 100,000 movements a year. It is situated in the Special Flight Rules Area for Washington, under Potomac TRACON control." He said there were safety, efficiency, and security benefits that could be relevant for other US states.
