Airports Commission shortlists Heathrow and Gatwick

Heathrow or Gatwick appears to be the most likely site for UK airport expansion by 2030, after the government-appointed Airports Commission on 17 December 2013 shortlisted three options for boosting aviation capacity. The Commission recommends that just one net additional runway is needed by 2030. Sir Howard Davies, who was appointed in 2012 to head an investigation into ways of expanding UK airport capacity, said: "The capacity challenge is not yet critical, but it will become so if no action is taken soon."
