IATA pursues end-to-end bag tracking

IATA Resolution 753 enters into force in June 2018. The mandate calls for full visibility of the baggage process from start to finish, and requires IATA member airlines to "maintain an accurate inventory ofbaggage by monitoring the acquisition and delivery ofbaggage" - in other words, carriers must keep tabs on every item ofbaggage from start to finish, throughout the various stages of the process. While airlines bear the ultimate responsibility under Resolution 753 for ensuring that each bag is delivered correctly, airport operators and baggage handlers also have important parts to play. Collaboration is therefore essential to implement any necessary technological and procedural changes to comply with the mandate.
