Ipsco Inc. incorporated in 1956 under the name of Prairie Pipe Limited. The company installed pipe making facilities in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and served the southern Saskatchewan oil country tubular goods (OCTG) market. In I960, Prairie Pipe took over the financially troubled Interprovincial Steel Corporation and became the Interprovincial Steel and Pipe Corporation. Over the next 2 5 years, Ipsco became a major player in Canada's oil and gas industries, as well as western Canada's largest steel producer. The focus was on arctic grade line pipe, OCTG and spiral pipe, with yield strengths of up to 80,000 psi.
