Trilateral agreement eludes Ethiopian dam

GLOBALLY, 310 TRANSBOUNDARY RIVER basins cover 47% of the earth's land surface and are shared by 150 countries. Quite often dam construction in transboundary river basins can be a source of conflict, as dams that control river flows in the upstream countries can affect water availability downstream. Described as being "among the most contentious and hydro-politically complex transboundary river systems in the world", the River Nile has been the focus of new research from the University of Manchester.
