Rising cargo rates

An increase in the prices tor the transportation of grain by truck has been predicted by Brazil's Pine Bank, which published a study on the matter recently. After reaching rock bottom at the end of 2016, freight rates have been trending upwards again so far in 2017. This will also affect grain shipments by truck. Furthermore, the number of registered trucks reached a high in 2014, at 1.7 million vehicles. Since then, the number has been tapering off slightly. Moreover, industry insiders expect the Brazilian state food supply company (Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento) to achieve a record harvest of about 219 million t of grain in 2017, most of which will be exported. Exports are expected in the neighbourhood of 127 million t, an increase of more than 13% over 2016.
