The Portuguese city of Elvas, which is close to the Spanish border, received high- ranking visitors on 5 March this year, in the form of EU transport commissioner Violeta Bulc, Portuguese prime minister Antonio Costa as well as his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy. They met up there for a ceremony accompanying a request for proposals to rebuild the rail route from Evora (Portugal) to Elvas, and to refurbish another section between Elvas and Badajoz (Spain), which is in a dilapidated condition.
