ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY TOP PRIORITIES FOR THE GROUP

Regulators continue to turn the screws in terms of both safety and the environment, in Europe in particular. Tighter restrictions are beneficial for society at large though can come at a cost, in particular for those who operate older tonnage that needs upgrading.The Grimaldi Group is well placed to meet the coming wave of regulation because our fleet is constantly being renewed. Take for example our latest newbuilds, the Eco Valencia and the Eco Barcelona, the first of 12 hybrid Grimaldi Green 5th Generation (GG5G) class ships, recently delivered from the Jinling yard in Nanjing, China.At 238 metres in length and 67,311 tonnes in GT, they are the largest short sea ro-ro vessels in the world, capable of carrying 7,800 linear metres of rolling freight, the equivalent of about 500 trailers. Their loading capacity is twice that of the largest ships we operate, while consuming the same fuel quantity at the same speed as predecessors thanks to their innovative design and their energy efficiency devices.
